Description

This recently discovered footage shot by a visitor to the Magical Mystery Tour set shows The Beatles and their wives in between takes during the filming at West Malling. It contains snippets from the Magicians’ sequence and shows the group organising the ballroom spectacular which was the finale to the film.
The Magical Mystery Tour, first shown on BBC television in December 1967, was the brainchild of Paul McCartney. Paul recalled, “It was just a mad idea. We said to everyone, ‘Be on the coach on Monday morning’ I told them all, ‘We’re going to make it up as we go along but don’t worry – it’ll be alright.”. By all accounts it was a chaotic, disorganised affair which was, nevertheless, seemingly enjoyed by everyone involved in its making! The critics, however, took a different view. Yet despite being panned by the media at the time Magical Mystery Tour is now considered by many to be a psychedelic mini-classic.
The Beatles hired West Malling Air Station, Kent for a week in September 1967. Here the group filmed the sequences for the ‘Blue Jay Way’, ‘I Am The Walrus’ and the ‘Your Mother Should Know’ segments seen in the film.
The duration of the film is 2 minutes 30 seconds. The condition is excellent.
The film is being sold with full copyright.
