Casbah Club 1959/1960 Membership Card (V)


An extremely rare Casbah Coffee Club Membership card from 1959 – 1960. The membership card is dated ‘25/10/59’ on the inside cover, the opposite side of the card is printed ‘Membership Card 1959-60’ and it is numbered ‘No.480’. Both the Quarrymen and later The Beatles performed in the club during 1959 and 1960. The Beatles played at the Casbah club 44 times between their first appearance, as the Quarrymen, on the opening night of the club on Saturday 29th August 1959 and their final appearance on the 24th June 1962. Many people consider that it was the early Beatles appearances at the club that kick-started their career. In the book he co-authored with his two brothers Pete Best wrote, “The Casbah opened on 29th August 1959. It was the brainchild of my mother, Mona Best, and with her determination, courage and foresight it became the catalyst for what would become known as Mersey Beat. It also gave birth to our biggest ever music phenomenon…The Beatles”.
The card measures 11.5cm x 9cm (4.5 inches x 3.5 inches) when closed. The condition of the Casbah Club card is very good minus.
